Shikhar Dhawan was going through rough patch in his career when he got a call for this year’s Champions Trophy tournament. His selection for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 raised a lot of eyebrows and he was trolled on various social media sites. But he proved his haters wrong. When it comes to ICC tournaments, he just looks like a different batsman.
Shikhar Dhawan, known for performing at bigger platform, continued his love affair with ICC tournaments as he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record to became the fastest batsman to score 1000 runs in ICC ODI tournaments. He achieved this feat during India’s must-win game against the South Africans at the Oval on June 11. He took 16 innings to register this feat. Sachin Tendulkar took 18 innings to cross 1000 run mar in ICC tournaments.

Not only this, the left-handed batsman also equaled Sourav Ganguly’s record for the most number of 50+ scores in ICC tournaments. Moreover, he also made a world ICC record of getting most number of consecutive 50+ scores in ICC tournaments.
Earlier on June 11, Shikhar Dhawan, who came to open the innings with Rohit Sharma, continued his fine run in the tournament and played a 78 run knock to guide his team a comfortable victory over the South Africans. Earlier in the day, AB de Villiers side collapsed in front of Indian bowling and fielding as they could only managed to set 192 run target for the Indians in a do-or-die battle. Indians chased down the target in 38 overs with eight wickets to spare and entered the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy for the fifth time.

1. Fastest to 500-plus runs in Champions Trophy
Shikhar Dhawan, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderebad in the IPL tournament, crossed the 500-run mark in Champions Trophy history when he completed his ton against Sri Lanka. Dhawan achieved this feat in seven innings, the fastest ever. The record was earlier held by former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, who reached the mark in 8 innings.

2. Five centuries in ICC tournaments
Shikhar Dhawan has 5 centuries to his name in ICC tournaments, with two of them coming in the 2015 ODI World Cup. Only Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar – 7 centuries each – have scored more tons than him in ICC tournaments.
3. Record century partnerships
Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma became the first Indian pair to register three consecutive 100-run partnerships after the duo added 138-run together against the Sri Lankans in this year’s Champions Trophy. They added 136 runs together against Pakistan in the previous game and 123 runs against Australia in 2016.
