Cheteshwar Pujara, Team India’s Test specialist, is back on the field against Sri Lanka in the first Test at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata and has donned a completely new look. Since the first Test in Kolkata got delayed due to rain, commentator and former Indian spinner Murali Karthik had a chat session with Pujara where he spoke about his new look and game plan. Talking about his new avatar, Pujara said that he drew inspiration from Ravindra Jadeja for the makeover.
When Karthik asked whether he was inspired by Jadeja, Pujara replied,”Maybe!”
Further, Pujara also spoke about the current series. He will be batting against the Lankan bowling attack after almost three months. Ahead of the clash, Pujara said,
I think we’ll try and focus on ourselves. We have been playing a good cricket throughout the season so, we would just like to continue that. But, at the same time, we would respect the opposition and we’ll stick to our plans rather than worrying about the opposition.
On being asked about his stint in the domestic and county circuit, he replied,
It was a good experience. I played 4 county games and the wickets were challenging. I learnt a lot. At times you don’t score much but you get to learn about your game and technique. later, when I was back for the Ranji Trophy, I batted well on the nets. I worked on few things and they paid me back.
Being an Indian batsman, he also described the challenges he faced on English tracks. He said,
As a professional, you always want to perform well. But there are times and there are certain low scoring tracks where you have to accept that you might not end up scoring a big hundred. But at the same time whatever you contribute to your team’s success is always helpful. When I played for the Nottinghamshire, I did enjoy that and the dressing room was fantastic and learnt as many things as possible.
India will be playing a 3-match Test series against Sri Lanka starting from November 16. The Sri Lanka tour of India comprises of three Tests, three ODIs and as many T20Is.
