After almost 4 months, team India took over New Zealand under the captaincy of Virat Kohli in the practice game at the Kennington Oval in London of ahead of the Champions Trophy 2017 going to start from June 1. Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bat first but his decision didn’t turn out that good. Moreover, Mahendra Singh Dhoni once again exhibited his on-field skills and proved why he is known as the best wicket keeper in the world.
New Zealand had an early blow as opener Martin Guptill was dismissed early by Mohammad Shami and the side was reduced to 20-1 in the third over.
Thereafter the run rate went down gradually over by over and the batsmen couldn’t withstand the Indian bowling attack on an English track. The Kiwi batting line up trembled down and failed terribly to perform in this game. However, wicket-keeper batsman Luke Ronchi tried his best to provide the much-needed momentum to his team but in the 21st over, he was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja and had to return pavilion after scoring 66 off 63 balls.
After Ronchi’s inning came to an end, Colin de Grandhomme, who performed well in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 10 while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders, came in at 7 while the Kiwis were reduced to 110/5.
It was the 23rd over when Jadeja had the ball and in order to put a pressure on him, Grandhomme went down the line to play the shot but unfortunately, missed the ball. Dhoni grabbed the ball and his hands were quick enough to dismiss Grandhomme and earn another wicket to India.
