Hobart Hurricanes opener D’Arcy Short registered the highest individual score in the history of Big Bash League (BBL) cricket. In a match between Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat, Short led from the front despite wickets falling from the other end. Short led a lone battle and scored 122 runs from 69 balls including 8 fours and 8 sixes at a strike rate of 176.81.
The left-handed opener broke the 6-year-old record of English batsman Luke Wright who scored 117 runs for Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes on January 9, 2012. Short also became the 16th batsman to score a century in BBL and the first batsman in this season of the league.
Short also entered the elite list of batsmen who have reached their century with a six. He reached his century in the 19th over off just 62 balls. It was absolute carnage from the batsman in the final over of the innings as he struck three sixes in a row off Mark Steketee.

Short got close to scoring his maiden century in KFC twice in this season. He missed out on the century by 3 and 4 runs against Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunders respectively. He has been in phenomenal form this season scoring 406 runs from 6 innings at an average of 81.2.

Though Short got a little lucky on his way to a century. He was dropped by Joe Burns at mid-wicket in the 12th over. The 27-year-old had scored 60 runs by then. Had he got out at that stage, Hobart Hurricanes would not have posted a total of 179 for 4.

Here is a list of top five highest individual scores in BBL history:
D’Arcy Short 122* – Hobart Hurricanes vs Brisbane Heat, January 10, 2018
Luke Wright 117 – Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes, January 9, 2012
Ben McDermott 114 – Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades, January 12, 2017
Luke Pomersbach 112* – Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Renegades, January 15, 2013
Craig Simmons 112 – Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers, February 5, 2014
The timely knock of Short might earn him his maiden T20I, ODI call-up. With Chris Lynn out of Australia’s ODI and T20I side due to injury, Short might get a nod ahead of Glenn Maxwell to play against England. Also, with Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 auctions coming up in the last week of January, Short might just bag a whopping deal with one of the franchise.
