Dhoni opens up on quitting captaincy, says took right decision at right time

Nine days after he stepped down as the limited over skipper, wicket-keeper batsman M S Dhoni today appeared in front of media to clear the air over the controversy that BCCI forced him to quit the post, saying that it was his personal but yet a tough decision.

Ahead of the ODI series against England, MSD faced a bunch of queries from the media personnel. It was his first media appearance after he had left captaincy.

On being asked about quitting the top post, MSD said,”I was waiting for the right time and was waiting for Virat to ease into test format.”

“I now feel that the team has the potential to win matches in all formats,” MSD added.

Earlier on January 12, the team India head coach Anil Kumble had said that M S Dhoni had a phenomenal career as captain and one of the highlights of his leadership tenure was the apt handling of senior players in the team.

Lauding MSD’s timing of stepping down from captaincy, Kumble said,”In this team, besides Yuvi, everybody else has started their careers under MS. So that is the kind of transition he has seen. It has been phenomenal to be able to achieve what he has been able to achieve. We all know the value that he brings as a player and as a batsman and keeper and of course his value on the field.”
