Due to flaws in the financial agreements for the event South African government were in a way booted out of the race. But, surprisingly it seems India may throw its hat in the ring to acquire the rights of hosting the coveted event. India had hosted the 2010 CWG Games in Delhi. That experience may not have been that good but Indian Olympic Association seems to be wary of that and wants to host it. Australia is poised to host the 2018 edition but Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has begun its search for a replacement host city and invited bids for 2022.
Meanwhile from the Indian dugout, IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta official spoke exclusively to a leading media house and said, “We received a communication from them (CGF) today. Our (IOA) president and members are discussing the issue. If there is support from the government, we will consider the possibility of bidding for the Games”.
He said the proper conduct of the South Asian Games on a shoestring budget in Guwahati and Shillong last year was a case in point to prove we are ready to host big international events.
He also said he would meet IOA president N Ramachandran to decide the future course of action.

In fact, three years ago, the IOA had expressed its wish to host the 2019 Asian Games. That time the government had seconded the thought but they could not submit their bid before the cut-off date and lost out.
