In the first ODI against India, Du Plessis was the only man who impressed with his batting performance. Despite lagging a support from the other end, he kept on scoring runs and got a magnificent century. He ended up scoring 120 runs off 112 balls and hit 2 sixes and 11 boundaries. Unfortunately, his efforts went in vain as the 189-run partnership between Virat Kohli (112) and Ajinkya Rahane (79) helped India win the match by 6 wickets.
Earlier, AB de Villiers was also dropped from the team for the first three matches against India as he sustained the injury to his right index finger during the third Test match against India at The Wanderers in Johannesburg.
