Varanasi hosted a one-of-its-kind cricket tournament which had players playing barefoot in dhoti-kurta. Even the umpires wore traditional attire. Whereas people struggle to walk in the traditional attire, these boys were swinging the bat, running comfortably between the wickets. And just when we thought there were no surprises, we got to know that the commentary is being done in Sanskrit language.
The tournament was organised by Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vidyalaya on the occasion of its 75th founding areas. The 10-over match tournament had 5 teams from Sanskrit schools from all over Varanasi. Also, it was the 10th edition of the tournament.
“We organise this tournament every year. The unique feature of this tournament is that the match commentary is done in Sanskrit,” Shastri told ANI
Acharya Pawan Kumar Shastri of Shastrath Mahavidyalaya emphasised on the uniqueness of the format,
“It is a proud moment for us that this tournament is known as Sanskrit Cricket League. While on other days, the boys study Vedas and have pens in their hands, today they have a bat and ball in their hands,”
