Gautam Gambhir feels proud, congratulates Mithali Raj on her WORLD RECORD!

Gautam Gambhir was quick to congratulate Mithali Raj for breaking the world record and becoming the leading run scorer in Women ODI cricket

Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir becomes the first male cricketer to congratulate Indian Women skipper Mithali Raj for breaking Charlotte Edwards’ record to become the highest run-scorer in ODIs. Raj achieved the feat against Australia in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 match. Gambhir was spontaneous with his tweet as he posted a photo of the stats record where Mithali is on the top of the table. Not only he tweeted the photo, he proudly dubbed as a True Champion’, he tweeted, “Congratulations Indian run-machine. Highest run getter in Women’s ODI. A true Champion.”

Mithali took just 163 ODI innings to overtake former England batter Charlotte Edwards who held the record previously scoring as many as 5,992 runs in ODIs. Mithali also became the first batter in Women’s ODI to score more than 6,000 ODI runs. She is currently batting against Australia and scored her 48th fifty. She also has the best batting average among the top 10 run scorer in ODIs on the list.

Mithali is leading the Indian side in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. India has already won 4 out of 5 matches they have played in the tournament. They are in the second spot in the standings and need just one win to book their berth in the semi-finals of the tournament.

India’s Women cricket team has never won the Women’s World Cup which has been highly dominated by England and Australia. With the form they are currently in they are expected to beat the favourites and create history. This World Cup might be the last one Mithali Raj plays, if India manages to win the tournament it will be a perfect send-off for a legend of a player.

Gambhir is currently out of the Indian side. The Kolkata Knight Riders skipper was ignored in the recent selection for India’s tour of Sri Lanka for which there was much outrage on Twitter.
