Hashim Amla becomes latest victim to Faf du Plessis’ runout mixup | Watch Video

Hashim Amla got out in the only way he could get out as a communication gap between him and Faf du Plessis resulted into his wicket

Hashim Amla is one of the in-form batsmen of World XI side. Faf du Plessis joined his Proteas teammate in the middle after Ben Cutting departed. World XI needed a partnership to get back into the game. But before Du Plessis and Amla could rebuild the innings a communication blunder between the two happened. The runout happened on the very next ball of Cutting’s wicket. The World XI skipper played the ball on the back foot, just nudging it towards the midwicket. Du Plessis took a few steps and initiated to take a single, Amla answered to the call and ran towards the striker’s end but it did not end well for him.

Du Plessis realised that taking a single would to be a good idea as he started to get back to his crease, he did not even signal to Amla. Midwicket fielder Fakhar Zaman was quick to get on the ball. Zaman knew there was a runout chance, he did not have a shy at the stumps himself. An underarm throw from him to Ali who got back at the non-striker’s end. Amla could not get back to the crease and was not even in the frame as Ali dislodged the bails with ease.

Amla was disappointed as he was in form and could have played the role of an anchor in World XI’s run chase. The Proteas opener had to depart for 21 runs from 12 balls including 4 boundaries. His strike rate was conclusive enough that he would have had an impact on the game had he been on the crease. He does not throw his wicket away that easily. He remained not out in the previous match as well.

This is not the first time Du Plessis has got someone runout in this way. The Proteas batsman got AB de Villiers and David Miller through terrible mixups.

As a result, World XI found themselves well short of the target as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and could not get a partnership which Amla could have provided. Pakistan won the game in the end by a comfortable margin of 33 runs.
