Here’s ‘the reason’ of the fight between Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble

After Kumble refused to continue with the Indian team, Virat Kohli was bashed mercilessly on Twitter for 'being responsible' for Kumble's exit.

Former Indian skipper Anil Kumble recently denied extending his term as the Indian head coach after an alleged tiff with Indian skipper Virat Kohli, that never settled. After Kumble refused to continue with the Indian team, Kohli was bashed mercilessly on Twitter for ‘being responsible’ for Kumble’s exit. Before the Champions Trophy finals, there were reports that Kumble and Virat Kohli were not on the same page during in the wages hike saga.

According to a report of CricNext, Kohli and Kumble were actually not on the same page on this issue. A senior official in BCCI made shocking revelations a couple of days after Kumble quit the coveted job. Apparently, Kohli felt that the captain should be paid extra for the added responsibilities and Kumble was against his opinion.

According to the report, a senior BCCI offcial said that Virat Kohli would never be on the same page on the captain getting paid extra for discharging the captain’s responsibility. “He has always said that every player’s interest should be taken care of, but especially those who play just one format should be priority,” said the official reportedly.

“Kumble wants to tag a few people just to strengthen his case. But his demand that the skipper be paid extra is mind-boggling,” he added.

Kohli had demanded Rs 5 crore for Grade A players. He was unhappy after BCCI announced the annual payment for cricketers. BCCI had decided to pay Rs 2 crore to Grade-A players, Rs 1 crore to Grade-B players and Rs 50 Lakh to Grade-C players. Kohli on the other hand wanted Rs 5 crore, Rs 3 crore and Rs 1.5 crore for Grade-A, Grade-B and Grade-C cricketers respectively.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s decision to re-invite applications for the coach’s post after Anil Kumble stepped down hasn’t gone down too well with former cricket manager Lalchand Rajput. Rajput is one of the five candidates whose resume was short-listed to be interviewed by the Cricket Advisory Committee comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. The others shortlisted are former opener Virender Sehwag, Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody, former Pakistan coach Richard Pybus and former India pacer Doda Ganesh.
