Australia’s destructive batsman Chris Lynn once again got injured while trying to take a dive. Lynn dislocated his shoulder and had to leave the ground during the final of the tri-nation T20I series between New Zealand and Australia. Lynn was in agony and the physio had to support his right arm while walking off the field. The only update of his injury is that he would not be playing in the T20I which was pretty clear from Lynn’s reaction after his dive.
In IPL 2018 auctions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) let go of their two-time champion Gautam Gambhir to Delhi Daredevils (DD). There were rumours that Lynn was to be captain of the KKR team. The batsman was retained by KKR for a whopping INR 9.6 crore. He had a decent record with the bat in the previous season, traumatising bowlers in the powerplay overs and taking the game away early.
Lynn’s T20 career has been outstanding. His phenomenal strike rate and average are the reasons why five IPL teams were bidding aggressively for his services this season. However, they all forgot that Lynn was prone to injuries — one of the reasons why he has not been able to cement a place in the national side despite being a swashbuckling white ball cricketer.
Here’s what Lynn had to say a few days ago to PTI,
“There’s a couple of boys that have been in the IPL for 10 years so you can’t ignore their experience, especially in their own backyard. I’m still learning the game over there but if given the nod then I’d jump at the chance.”

With the whole revamp of teams after IPL 2018 auctions, franchises are looking ahead at least by 2-3 years. They will be looking to maintain a core team for which they need to have a captain who is consistent and able to lead the team in all the games.

Even in the previous IPL, Lynn could only play 7 games in the season. He was out of the side due to a shoulder injury in the middle of the season. Franchises would not want their captain to be absent at crucial stages of the league.

KKR might want to have a quick reassessment after Lynn dislocated his shoulder if he was their first choice of captain. Players like Dinesh Karthik, and especially Robin Uthappa, have been featuring in the cash-rich league for a decade and deserve a chance to lead the team.
Here’s the squad of KKR for IPL 2018 —
