Bangladesh One Day International captain Mashrafe Mortaza on November 4 surprised his fans during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League when entered the field sporting a jersey which was numbered ‘0’ during a match between Rangpur Riders against Rajshahi Kings at the International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet. Rangpur Riders won the match by 6 wickets.
Talking about the same, Rangpur Riders skipper Mortaza said that he got the inspiration from former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs who had donned the jersey that had ’00’ as the number.
Mortaza was quoted by Cricbuzz,
I was inspired by an interview of Gibbs that I read a few days back. There it was stated ‘start from zero again’ and honestly it was quite motivating.
Earlier, Mortaza used to wear the jersey that had the number ‘2’.
Mortaza further stated,
Initially, I wore 20 and then later decided to keep the first part and began wearing 2. Now I am going back to the second part to complete the circle.
Rangpur Riders skipper Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and chose to bowl first in the second BPL 2017 match against Rajshahi Kings. They restricted Rajshahi Kings to 154/8.
In reply, Rangpur Riders chased down the 155-run target with seven balls to go and six wickets in hand.
Brief Score: Rangpur Riders 155 for 4 (Mithun 46, Bopara 39*) beat Rajshahi Kings 154 for 8 (Talukdar 47, Sammy 29, Najmul 2-20, Malinga 2-34) by six wickets.
