HILARIOUS! Smriti Mandhana’s statement when asked about studies will make you fall off your chair

Apart from Smriti Mandhana's excellence as a cricketer, she also has a good sense of humour. We got a hint of the same when she spoke about her academics

The latest heartthrob and India’s new pin-up girl Smriti Mandhana is already taking giant strides on the field of play but is also making headlines. Smriti, 21, scored a 90 and a 106* in the first two matches of the recently concluded women’s world cup and made space for India in the tournament. But later on in the tournament, her form faded and she scored quite low. Yet, India made it to the finals and her contribution can never be undermined. She returned to India as a queen, literally!

The Indian eves landed at the Mumbai airport yesterday (26th of July) amidst a lot of media glare. Most of the players spoke to the media.

On playing at Lord’s

Smriti Mandhana the Indian southpaw also spoke to the reporters and explained her feelings of playing at the iconic Lord’s, said, “The journey was good, of course. As a kid, you always dream to play at Lord’s. Unfortunately, we missed playing at Lord’s in 2014 as the match was washed out. But I remember Jhulu didi (Jhulan Goswami) telling me and Shikha (Pandey) that “don’t worry the 2017 World Cup final is at the same ground and if we do well, we will be there”. I think that really happened. It was a dream come true playing before the packed stadium in Lord’s.”

On playing County cricket:

“If BCCI allows, then. I think the schedule is very busy for us right now and it is really tough to take time out of this schedule and go play county cricket. But if I get an opportunity and I have a free time, I will definitely like to go and play in those conditions,” said Smriti.

On academics:

Apart from caressing the ball through the covers, she also has a humorous side to her of which we got a hint when she addressed the media about her academics.

“I am in first year (of college) for the last three years,” said Smriti. With a bit of laughter, she added, “I have not failed, but I am not giving exams.”
