The Manchester attacks that left the whole world shocked may also have its effect on ICC Champions Trophy, which is slated to begin in a few days time. The Manchester blast that shook the world happened at the Manchester Arena where popstar Ariana Grande was performing in front of twenty-thousand fans. The blast according to reports, has claimed the lives of 22 people and injured scores. This blast has prompted the British Parliament to take cognizance, they have asked all tours, events and banqueting to be cancelled with immediate effect. This arrangement will remain in place until the advice changes. So it seems ICC Champions Trophy will have to wait.
The official website of the British Parliament said, “As a consequence all tours, events and banqueting will be cancelled with immediate effect. This arrangement will remain in place until the advice changes.”
This led ICC, who had confirmed yesterday that the tournament will go as per schedule had to bite back their words after the British Parliament’s note. The ICC in their social handle came out with this statement, “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the horrific attack in Manchester. The ICC and ECB place safety and security at the ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Women’s World Cup this summer as the highest priority. We operate on advice from our Tournament Security Directorate – in conjunction with the ECB and relevant authorities – to ensure that we have a robust safety and security plan for both tournaments. We will continue to work with authorities over the coming hours and days and review our security in line with the threat levels.”
