Right after becoming the only wicketkeeper to effect 100 stumpings in the One Day Internationals, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is back in International Cricket Council’s top 10 ODI batsman ranking. After quite a long time, he has grabbed the 10th position in the ranking list. In the recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka, where Team India hammered the home team by 5-0, Dhoni scored a total of 164 runs in 4 innings and remained unbeaten in all of them.
At the top of the list is the present Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who scored two consecutive centuries against Sri Lanka. He also scored a total of 330 runs in the bilateral series and scored 1000 runs in 2017. Another Indian batsman who is on the list is Rohit Sharma. He also hit two consecutive centuries against Sri Lanka and currently is at the 9th position with 764 points.
The new ranking list has also brought good news for India’s young spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who was awarded the Man of the Series in the Sri Lanka. Bumrah moved up 27 places to his career-best and bagged the fourth position on the bowler’s list with 687 points. Bumrah took a total of 15 wickets in 5 ODIs against Sri Lanka including one 5-wicket haul. Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood is leading the bowler’s list with 732 points while Imran Tahir is at the second position with 701 points.
After whitewashing Sri Lanka at their in the 5-match bilateral ODI series, Team India grabbed the third position in the ICC ODI team rankings. The Proteas are still the toppers and the Aussies at the second.
For the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, the qualifier matches will commence in 2018 where the bottom 4 teams will fight to get the entry in the World Tournament. Sri Lanka will be one of the teams to feature in the qualifier as they needed to win at least two games in the series to get the direct entry. The top two sides from the World Cup Qualifier will play the World Cup 2019.
