Former Indian captain MS Dhoni is all set to add another feather to his cap in the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against England, starting July 12. Dhoni, who helped the Indian team lift the World Cup in 2011, needs just 33 more runs to become the 12th cricketer, fourth Indian, in the ODI history to score 10,000 runs.
Following this feat, Dhoni would join batting legends Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly to have five-digit ODI totals.
Former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 18,426 runs in ODIs, followed by Sri Lanka’s former skipper Kumar Sangakkara (14,234), Australia’s Ricky Ponting (13,704). Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430) is at number 4, while his team-mate Mahela Jayawardene (12,650) is at five. Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul Haq (11,739), South Africa’s Jacques Kallis (11,579), Ganguly (11,363), Dravid (10,889), West Indian Brian Lara (10,405) and Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan (10,290) are also on the list.
With this feat, Dhoni will also become only the second wicketkeeper-batsman to touch the 10000-run mark after Sangakkara.
Meanwhile, the Virat Kohli-led side recently won the three-match T20I series by beating hosts England 2-1 and they would hope to keep the winning momentum in the 50-over cricket.

England, on the other hand, is the top-ranked ODI team in world cricket. Eion Morgan’s Lions are coming into the series having crushed the Australians 6-0 in their last bilateral engagement.
