India agrees to participate in Independence Cup 2018 cricket series in Sri Lanka

The SLC President has confirmed that India agreed to the participation after the Prime Ministers of both the nations had discussed the same.

In order to enrich the cricket ties with Sri Lanka, India has agreed to participate in the Independence cup in Sri Lanka in 2018. SL Cricket President Thilanga Sumathipala has confirmed this tie and also mentioned that they would also be approaching Pakistan and South Africa to take part in this tournament. This series would be conducted on the occasion of 70th Independence of Sri Lanka.

In a press conference, Sumathipala stated that the dates of the tournament will be fixed after having a conversation with other country’s Cricket Board Presidents. He said,”We are very much looking forward with the conduct of the Independence cup for which India has given its agreement.”

“The Indians would be visiting South Africa in the time when we are scheduling the tour, so this matter will be discussed with India and South Africa during the next month’s ICC meeting in Dubai regarding Independence Cup and then we all (Sri Lanka, India, South Africa and Pakistan) will accommodate each other,” he further added.

The SLC President has confirmed that India agreed to the participation after the Prime Ministers of both the nations had discussed the same.

“India has already agreed to play the Independence Cup in 2018 in Sri Lanka after Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe discussed this with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently,” he said.

While India is already scheduled to visit Sri Lanka this year in July-August to play a series of three tests, 5 ODIs and a T20I. However, the dates are not finalised yet.
