Ambidextrous Akshay Karnewar came into the limelight in the recent practice game against Australia. He is one of the players to be included in Board President’s XI team. The 24-year-old Maharashtrian has been under the radar for quite some time now and is recognised as one of the most talented prospects in the circuit. He has also been a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore set up. Known for his unique ability to bowl with both arms, the player highlighted his ambidextrous ability in the recent practice game against Australia. The visiting batsman was having a problem dealing with Karnewar’s tricks. He also picked up a wicket of Travis Head in his six overs.
According to Cricinfo, Akshay Karnewar was 13 when Balu Navghare, his coach at the time, noticed that the right-arm off-spinner who threw with his left hand. Navghare encouraged him to take up left-arm spin seriously, and Karnewar ended up becoming an ambidextrous bowler. It was Marcus Stoinis who blasted a scintillating 76 to power Australia to 347 for 7 in 50 overs against Board President’s XI. The score looks ominous for the inexperienced BPXI, who have already lost the crucial wicket of Rahul Tripathi. India plays the first ODI against Australia on the 17th of September at Chennai. It is a 5-match ODI series.
