India’s left-handed opener, Shikhar Dhawan started the one-off historic Test match against Afghanistan in Bengaluru on June 14 by creating a record as he became the first Indian player to score a century before lunch on 1st day of the test match.
With this, Dhawan became the sixth batsman in Test history to score a century before lunch after Victor Trumper, Charles Macartney, Don Bradman, Majid Khan and David Warner.
Here are the stats:
NAME | RUNS | MATCH | YEAR |
V Trumper | 103* | Aus v Eng | 1902 |
C Macartney | 112* | Aus v Eng | 1926 |
D Bradman | 105* | Aus v Eng | 1930 |
Majid Khan | 108* | Pak v NZ | 1976-77 |
David Warner | 100* | Aus v Pak | 2016-17 |
Shikhar Dhawan | 100* | Ind v Afg | 2018 |
Moreover, Dhawan is now the second Indian to score most runs (104) before lunch on any day of a Test after Hardik Pandya’s 108 runs against Sri Lanka in Pallekele last year.
Dhawan came to open the innings for India with Murali Vijay after India’s stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bat first.
Earlier, Afghanistan became the 12th nation to play Test cricket.
