After beating Australia, India dethrone South Africa to become No.1 team in ICC ODI Rankings!

India were second before the ODI series against Australia after rising in the rankings after beating Sri Lanka in the ODI series by 5-0

Team India’s 9th ODI win on the trot gets them to the top of the ICC ODI Rankings. Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, India were already leading the ICC Test rankings and now with a rather comfortable win over Australia by 50 runs in the second ODI. India were second in the ODI rankings just below South Africa before the start of the ODI series against the Australians. India are yet to lose a bilateral ODI series in 2017, the only tournament they could not triumph in was in ICC Champions Trophy where they faltered in the final against Pakistan.

It was an iconic win for India against Australia in the third ODI played at the Holkar Stadium, Kolkata. Despite a challenging target of 294 runs, Team India defeated the Australian guests easily by 5 wickets.

Rohit scored 71 runs off 62 balls. The Mumbai batsman was in fine form, smashing the ball four times into the stands and six times to the ropes. Rahane hit nine boundaries while scoring 70 runs off 76 balls. Later, Hardik Pandya produced a power-packed knock lower down the order to carry the hosts to the cusp of victory.

The Indian cricket team has a hundred per cent track record at the Holkar Stadium, Indore. This is the track where former Indian opener scored his highest individual ODI score of 219 runs against West Indies in 2011.

India have dominated almost every team in the ODIs. They are on a winning streak in international matches. They have won their 11th match on the trot including the 9-0 clean sweep against Sri Lanka, a perfect tour of the island.

On the other hand, Australia are still at No.3 of the ICC ODI rankings. Though they might lose the third spot to England who have 113 rating points in ODIs and playing against West Indies in an ODI series at their home.
