Despite rain threats, the second One-Day International got underway at Eden Gardens. Virat Kohli-led team India won the toss and opted to bat first. But India did not get off to the best of starts as Rohit Sharma lost his wicket early in the piece to Nathan Coulter-Nile. Rohit Sharma, who has a phenomenal record at Eden Gardens disappointed as he got out cheaply for 7. In his last nine appearances at the Eden Gardens, Rohit has scored 794 runs at an envious strike rate of 99.87, at an average of 113, across all formats. It’s also the same ground where the regular Indian opener scored that 173-ball 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014. It’s still the highest individual score in ODIs.
With so much of expectations on him, he failed, disappointing his fans. Rohit also has a stunning record against the mighty Australians, against whom he has scored 1325 runs in 24 innings against Australia at an average of 66.25 with the help of five tons. Australians must have been relieved to see the back of the dangerous Rohit so early. It will also allow Australia to have a go at Virat Kohli with the new ball. But as we speak, Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli have weathered the early stutter by stitching a solid partnership. Coulter-Nile bowled a ball that was pitched up to Rohit, who went for a cover drive, but apparently, the bat face closed early and the ball went straight back to the bowler. Coulter-Nile was surprised as it came on his follow through.

He reacted early, luckily the ball popped up from his hand, giving him ample time to set himself to grab it on the second attempt. Rohit Sharma was out for 7 and he would be kicking himself as it was a good wicket to bat on as the ball was coming on well to the bat.
