Mithali Raj-led India lost the match to England by 9 runs, which was a big heart break for fans in India. England, the hosts win their fourth title. Shrubsole was the wrecker-in-chief for England picking a 6-fer to dent India’s hopes. Harmanpreet and Raut played good hands, they scored a fifty a piece but could not put it over the line. India came into the world cup as ranked seventh in the ICC rankings. Then to reach the finals is a huge achievement and that is being hailed all across the globe. The girls in blue are being congratulated for putting Indian women’s cricket in the global map.
England batted first and scored 228 runs, which looked to be within the grasp of the Indians. But in the second half of the game, the pitch started slowing up and assisting the spinners, who kept a lid on the scoring, helping Shrubsole to strike from the other end. It could be the last world cup for Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami but they will leave with their heads held high after this big-hearted performance.
