New Zealand beat India by 6 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match One Day International series. Earlier, Virat Kohli-led team India won the toss and opted to bat first in the 1st One Day International at Wankhede. India got off to a miserable start, losing both their openers early to Trent Boult. Dhawan was the first to be dismissed, he scored 9 runs and Rohit scored 20 runs. But it was Virat Kohli’s day, who was also appearing in his 200th ODI, he scored his 31st hundred and became only the second player in the history of the game to score a century in his 200th game, AB de Villiers being the other.
Virat Kohli stood fort at one end, as India kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Kedar Jadhav scored 12. Karthik, who is making a comeback scored 37 runs. MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya scored 25 and 16 respectively. Finally, it was good resistance from Bhuvneshwar Kumar along with Virat Kohli, that took India to a respectable 280. Virat Kohli ended up with 121. From the Kiwi’s point of view, Boult was their pick of the bowlers, he scalped 4 wickets.

New Zealand started pursuit off 280 and got off to a decent start without losing early wickets. The visitors finally lost the wicket of Munro for 28. Guptill followed next for 32. Big-fish of New Zealand Kane Williamson could not make a big impact as he departed for 6 runs to Kuldeep Yadav. But it was Tom Latham and Ross Taylor, who stitched a partnership to get the visitors back on track. After 32 overs, they were 162 for 3. Soon, both Ross Taylor and Tom Latham brought up their 50’s to pile on the agony for the Indian bowlers.
