India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test, Day 5 Highlights: Match drawn after play stopped due to bad light

The Lankans were seven wickets down in 75 runs while India needed 3 more to win the game. However, the bad light forced the umpires of call off the play before its scheduled time

The first India vs Sri Lanka test match ended in a draw after the play on the final day was stopped due to bad light. The Lankans were 156 runs away from the target while India needed just 3 wickets to win. After losing quick wickets in the early morning session, Indian captain Virat Kohli leads from the front and took past India 250 on Day 5 of the first Test match. Despite regular wicket fall, Kohli managed to get his 18th Test hundred. With 11 tons, he has equaled Sunil Gavaskar’s record of most centuries in Test as Indian captain. Right after getting his century, India declared their inning after taking a lead of 230 runs.

While chasing the target of 321 runs, Sri Lanka lost both their openers within 2 runs. The Indian pacers didn’t leave any stone unturned to put the Lankans under pressure. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 4 wickets in the second innings and removed Sadeera Samarwickrama, Lahiru Thirimanne, Niroshan Dickwell and Dilruwan Perera. The Lankans, who were 156 runs away from the target and on the verge of losing the match, got a blessing in disguise as the 1st Test ended in a draw. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged the man of the match award for his amazing spells in both the innings claiming 8 wickets.

The second Test will start on November 24 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur. The 3-match series is levelled at 0-0.
