Former Sri Lankan skipper Arjuna Ranatunga makes shocking revelations as he alleges that India vs Sri Lanka ICC World Cup 2011 final was fixed. Ranatunga made the shocking statement after former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara raised allegations on who gave the green flag to Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan in 2009 when the team was attacked by terrorists and players got injured. These are serious allegations as Ranatunga was in the commentators’ panel during ICC World Cup Final 2011 which was played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Ranatunga revealed this to Sri Lanka’s English Newspaper Daily Mirror after Kumar Sangakkara wanted an enquiry on who arranged the tour of Pakistan in 2009. The 53-year-old said, “Sangakkara wants an inquiry into the tour of Pakistan then they should have one. But I think we should also inquire into what happened to the Sri Lanka team during the 2011 World Cup final. I think this is something that the Sports Minister should look into rather than concentrating on fitness issues,”
Ranatunga went on to reveal more in the press conference at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation office in Colombo demanding an inquiry on the final 6 years after the World Cup.
“I cannot reveal what happened on that day, but I would someday reveal the truth. So, I think we should hold an inquiry into this matter,” he added.
This will be a big blow for the World Cricket as Ranatunga who was a legendary captain of Sri Lanka and led them to victory in 1996 has made these allegations. Though we don’t know the truth behind the story, it sure seems like he has a personal vendetta against Sangakkara who captained the Sri Lankan side in the final.
Though Sangakkara’s concern too is genuine as he and his team’s bus was attacked on tour of Pakistan because of which international teams have refrained from touring them.
