Right after winning the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo on August 6 and leading the series by 2-0, the Indian Cricket Team had to face a huge blow. Ahead of the third and the final Test, the International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed a ban of one Test match on star spinner Ravindra Jadeja as he was found breaching the code of conduct during the second innings of the second game in Colombo. According to the rule books, Jadeja violated the article 2.2.8 of the ‘Players’ Code of Conduct’ and accumulated 3 demerit points. After having a total of 6 such points in his account within a 24-month period, Jadeja will not be a part of the playing XI in the Pallekele Test.
What is article 2.2.8?
Article 2.2.8 (‘Players’ Code of Conduct’) deals with “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match.”
What Ravindra Jadeja actually did?
It was the 58th over of the game when Ravindra Jadeja was bowling to Malinda Pushpakumara who came in at number three on the third day as a night watchman. The batsman played a defensive shot while Jadeja fielded his own bowling and threw back towards batting end. However, Pushpakumara dodged the ball safely while Wriddhiman Saha managed to stop it which came like a tracing bullet.

World no 1 Test bowler, Ravindra Jadeja took the 9th 5-wicket haul of his career in the second Test against Sri Lanka and dismissed Dinesh Chandimanl, Angelo Mathews, Dilruwan Perera, Dhananjay Disilva and one of the two centurions Dimuth Karunaratne.
Team India beat the Sri Lankan team by an innings and 53 runs on their home soil in the 2nd Test of India vs Sri Lanka 3-match bilateral series on August 8.
