Team India readies for the Lankan challenge, which is slated to begin on the 26th of July. The series will have 3 Test matches, 5 One Day Internationals and a one-off T20I. This is a series that is bound to test the Indian team. The Lankan test will also be important for Sri Lanka, which is a team in transition and would be hoping they get the combinations right. Virat Kohli will be leading the Indian team under a new team India coach, Ravi Shastri. Hence, it will be an important test for Ravi as the new coach and his support staff which include Bharat Arun and Sanjay Bangar, who has been reinstated as the batting coach.
Hence, all eyes will be on team India.
Earlier, team India had won their last Test series which they won against Australia (Border-Gavaskar) 3-1. But, that was under Anil Kumble. Last time the Indian team toured the Emerald Isle, they won. We also learn that Dinesh Chandimal, the newly appointed captain of Sri Lanka would be missing the first Test against India, which is considered to be a major setback to their hopes.
Ahead of the first Test Virat Kohli interacted with the media and said, “I think that tour (of Sri Lanka in 2015) for us was a landmark. If you look at the average age of that team a couple of years ago; obviously the players have matured from then on, it’s been 24 months. That tour for us was a sort of start of the belief system that we can win away from home and we do have the side required to win away from home.”

What he means is, the last time they played in Sri Lanka, it was a coming of age tour for the Indians.
