8 UNIQUE records that were broken by Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni & Rohit Sharma!

The score of 131 by Kohli is the joint highest by a captain in an ODI in SL. Other: 131* A Ranatunga at RPS in 1997 v IND

Virat Kohli-led team India has continued to play in a purple patch and registered their fourth consecutive victory in One Day Internationals against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is now at the risk of getting whitewashed in the ODI’s as well. Earlier the hosts were whitewashed in the Tests. This Indian team is going from strength to strength in building up a team for the 2019 cricket World Cup, something Virat had said he was keeping an eye on. But all the focus was on former Indian skipper MS Dhoni, who played his 300th ODI. Now that Sri Lanka has lost the fourth ODI, they have also missed the chance of qualifying directly for the World Cup, which is a big setback to Sri Lankan cricket. India thrashed Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI by a whopping 168 runs.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both scored centuries to set it up for India. Manish Pandey, who is making a comeback also registered a 50 and remained not out along with MS Dhoni, who was stranded at 49. India scored a mammoth 375 for 5, after winning the toss. A lot of unique records were toppled in this match, some of them also became world records. It is a match India will not forget soon.

Here are the records that were broken:

1. MS Dhoni has the most number of not outs in ODIs.

MS Dhoni pipped Chaminda Vaas and Shaun Pollock to collect the most number of not outs in ODI’s. He remained not out in the fourth ODI and has 73 not outs in his career.

2. Virat Kohli is the first player to have double digit double century partnerships in ODIs

Virat Kohli, who looked good to get to 200, was dismissed for 131, but he strung a partnership of 219 runs for the second wicket with Rohit Sharma. With that combined double century, Virat Kohli becomes the first player to be involved in 10 double hundred partnerships in ODIs.

3. Virat Kohli is the youngest batsman to score 2000 in ODIs

By scoring 131, Kohli also became the youngest batsman to score 2000 runs against any opposition in ODI’s.

4. Rohit Sharma becomes the first batsman to score consecutive centuries in Sri Lanka

Rohit Sharma, who scored 104, became the first batsman to score consecutive centuries in Sri Lankan soil against the hosts. He scored 104 off 88 balls.

5. Kohli is now the highest run-getter of 2017

Virat Kohli also surpassed Faf du Plessis with his 131, as he went past the South African as the highest run getter in ODI’s this year. Kohli’s stats now stand as 17 matches, 907 runs at a strike rate of over 100. The 28-year-old has already notched up two centuries and seven fifties. Earlier the top spot belonged to South Africa’s Faf du Plessis, who has 814 runs in 16 matches at an average of 58.14.

6. India makes its highest total in Sri Lanka in ODI

The score of 375 is now India’s highest total in ODIs in Sri Lanka. The previous highest was 363/5 at Colombo (RPS) in 2009.

7. Kohli became the highest scorer as a captain in ODIs in Lanka

The score of 131 by Kohli is the joint highest by a captain in an ODI in SL. The previous highest was 131* A Ranatunga at RPS in 1997 v IND.

8. 1st time in ODI history two batsmen finished with scores of 50* (Manish Pandey) and 49* (MS Dhoni) in same inns

Yes, this too happened, something that has never happened before. With the last two balls to go, MS Dhoni was on strike he tried the helicopter but only managed a single, he could have a comeback for the second but that would be suicidal, hence Pandey got the opportunity to get to 50 and remain not out.
