MS Dhoni, who is all set to feature in his 300th One Day International, has been in ramping up form in the ongoing 5-match ODI series. MS Dhoni’s brilliant play has helped the visitors take a 3-0 unassailable lead. Now with two more games to follow, we could see Virat Kohli tinker around with the combinations and also look to give players like Manish Pandey a go. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been the series’ success story so far. Before he started off the series, questions hovered over his future in context to the 2019 cricket World Cup. But with his record making streak and a consistent performance, he has silenced his critics. In the second ODI, when India was reeling and staring at defeat, he came to bat with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and stitched a partnership of 100 runs to guide India home. He followed that 45 unbeaten with a 61 not out in the third ODI, where partnered with Rohit Sharma. MS Dhoni remained not out on both occasions.
But also in the spotlight are two records that beckon MS Dhoni. Both the records are pretty unique. One, he is just a stumping shy of the three digit number, which he currently equals with Sri Lankan former legend Kumar Sangakkara.
There is another record that will be there on his radar, that is the highest number of not outs in ODI history. Currently, with 72 not outs he is tied with Shaun Pollock and Chaminda Vaas. If he manages to remain not out in the fourth ODI, his figure will become 73, which would be a world record.
Earlier, recalling one incident, Indian Chief selector MSK Prasad recently told Indian Express, “While training at the gym late in the night, Dhoni picked up weights and suddenly there was a catch in his back and fell with the weight. Thankfully, the weight did not fall on him. He could not walk, he was literally crawling. He pressed the alarm bell, and the medical staff immediately came and attended him. He was taken on a stretcher.”
