India’s left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav set the internet on fire after he showed his presence of the mind on the field to dismiss Kusal Mendis with his superb throw during day 2 of the third and the final Test match against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on August 13. This miraculous event happened during the ninth over of Sri Lanka’s first innings.

Mohammed Shami was bowling the ninth over and Dinesh Chandimal was on strike. Chandimal flicked a Mohammed Shami’s delivery to the right of mid-on. R Ashwin dived full length to stop the ball, by the time Kusal Mendis, who was at non striker end, ran for a single, Ashwin threw back quickly towards the stumps but Shami failed to grab that. Kudeep who was stationed at short cover showed a good presence of mind and quickly rattled the stumps with a sharp throw. Kusal (18) fell short and was given out.

Earlier, Team India posted a mammoth total of 487 in their first innings. On day 2, Hardik Pandya stole the limelight as he smashed his debut Test century in just 86 balls which includes 26 runs in an over and hat trick of sixes. His innings was laced with 7 sixes and seven fours.

In reply to India’s first innings total, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals due to poor shot selections and they were bundled or 135 runs in the first innings. For India, left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav was the leading wicket taker with a four-wicket haul.

Sri Lanka, in their second innings following follow on enforced on them by Virat Kohli, is struggling. The currently lost their 4 wickets for just 75. They are still trailing by 277.
