India had a ripper of a Day 2 as all odds favoured them. It was Hardik Pandya at first who smashed Sri Lankan bowlers all over the park for fours and sixes. His maiden Test ton broke records and took India to a more than the respectable total in the first innings. The score of 487 turned out to be too good for Sri Lankan batsmen as they crumbled against Indian bowlers. It seemed like they were in a hurry to lose wickets. Sri Lanka’s first innings got wrapped up in 37.4 overs as they could only score 135 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav took 4 wickets in the first innings destroying the Sri Lankan batting lineup. He was accompanied by Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin who picked 2 wickets each. Pandya too chipped in with a wicket. Kuldeep also got the crucial wicket of Kusal Mendis through a runout.
Sri Lanka are currently trailing by a whopping 333 runs. They were asked to follow on by Indian skipper and it turned out to be a good decision. Opener Upul Tharanga once again got out early leaving his team in danger. They are currently 15 for 1 as Night Watchman Malinda Pushpakumara survives.

Good session for India despite three wickets going down. 158 runs scored in the first session, thanks to Hardik Pandya as he took the game away from Sri Lanka with his blistering knock. It was Pandya’s maiden century in Tests and First-Class cricket. Pandya also created a record for the fastest Test century for a No.8 batsman. Pandya struck 8 fours and 7 sixes in his innings. He ended up scoring 74 runs in boundaries. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will be disappointed after taking three wickets in the first session. Pandya celebrated his century in style as well.

Sri Lanka have done well to make a comeback in the third Test after being hammered for runs by openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul. A middle order batting collapse ensured that Sri Lanka finally have their way in the first innings of a Test in this Test series. Malinda Pushpakumara started the collapse taking the breakthrough and Lakshan Sandakan joined in, the spinner who replaced Rangana Herath in the side. India are currently 329 for 6 at the start of Day 2 with wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha and all-rounder Hardik Pandya batting.
Pitch Report:
The pitch is still a batting paradise. The bowlers will have to work hard to get wickets. The spinners will get help from the pitch but not threatening to an extent that this pitch should be termed as deteriorating from Day 2. Although the outfield will not be as slow as the Day 1 which means that the batsmen will get value for their shots.
Weather Report:
It is expected to be cloudy all day long. The weather forecast for Day 1 did not prove to be correct as there were no thunderstorms. Though they are expected to be on Day 2 before the first session. The weather is supposed to be cloudy till the starting of the third session and then change. If the weather forecast is to be believed it might play spoilsport on Day 2. If it stays like Day 2, expect a full day’s game.

If Indian batsmen fail to score a big total it will be upon Indian bowlers to bring the visitors back in the game. Kuldeep Yadav will be under the radar as he replaces Ravindra Jadeja in the side.
