MS Dhoni is on a record-breaking spree in the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. At first, Dhoni equaled Sangakkara’s record of 99 ODI stumpings and now he has become the first wicketkeeeper in the history of ODIs to record 100 stumpings. Dhoni had the easiest of the stumpings as Yuzvendra Chahal fooled Akila Dananjaya into an advanced shot coming down the track. Dananjaya could not get bat on the ball as he misjudged the length of the ball. Dhoni made no mistake in collecting the ball and whipping off the bails in a flash like he usually does.
As soon as Dhoni dislodged the bails there was no need for the square leg for Umpire to send it upstairs. Dananjaya was way down the crease and had no way of making it back into the crease. Chahal picked up his first wicket of the 5th ODI on the last ball of his spell. Chahal got the wicket he deserved as Sri Lanka kept losing wickets like they have been losing throughout the series and managing another mediocre total against a top-class Indian side. Sri Lanka could only score 238 in the first innings giving India a non-threatening target.
Earlier, Dhoni broke the records of the most number of not outs in the international cricket history followed by the most unbeaten innings in successful ODI chases.
Dhoni was under the scrutiny of critics for his berth in the side keeping in mind the 2019 World Cup but he has shut them up in style with his wicketkeeping skills and his experience with the bat. Dhoni has been able to rescue India two times in the ODI series when they were chasing.
