MS Dhoni’s future in IPL Auction 2018: We will go all out to get him, says CSK director

Gurunath Meiyappan, who was the co-owner of the franchise was allegedly involved in influencing players

It seems after playing a match-winning knock against Sri Lanka to help India take a 2-0 lead in the series, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s stocks have risen. India was in a troubled spot when MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar played out of their skins to pull off an improbable win. MS Dhoni was also the captain of Chennai Super Kings, who were suspended from the IPL in 2015 as they got embroiled in a match fixing controversy. Gurunath Meiyappan, who was the co-owner of the franchise was allegedly involved in influencing players, which proved to be the central reason for teams like CSK and Rajasthan Royals to be scrapped. Next year, CSK is all set to make a comeback to the tournament.

CSK director George John speaking to the New Indian Express said, “We will have the same support staff we had two years back. Fleming too will be on board as coach and the talks are on the advanced stage.”

“We will try our best to get back as many players who played for CSK two years back. But as far as MS Dhoni is concerned he was synonymous with CSK and we will go all out to get him. He has such a big fan following here and all franchise need a player like him to keep their brand and fans intact, so bringing back Dhoni is our top priority,” he further added.

When asked about whether his team is looking forward to rope in some local talent in the form of Washington Sundar and Sai Kishore, he replied “The TNPL has been a wonderful breeding ground to spot talent. We have seen some amazing performances in the last two editions. We will certainly look players who fill our slots. We would love to have them. Both performed splendidly in TNPL. But it will not be easy to bid as every team will also be in the race.”
