Almost a week after the toss in the only T20I between India and Sri Lanka created a confusion, the Sri Lanka Cricket has released a video claiming that match referee Andy Pycroft called it right and everything that happened was correct. However, in the newly released six-second video clip, it’s still unclear whether the Zimbabwean match official said heads or tails.
Earlier on September 6, Sri Lanka skipper flipped the coin while Indian skipper Virat Kohli called ‘Heads’. As the match referee, Pycroft checked the coin, it seemed he had said, “Tails, India.” Listening to it, Murali Karthik, who was the toss presenter, proceeded to Virat Kohli to know his pick, whether to bat or bowl, while the match referee looked confused as he kept pointing towards Tharanga.
After the match ended, the video clip of the toss was released on the Youtube by the broadcasters while the world blamed the match referee, who is supposed to be the highest authority, as to why didn’t he step in and rectify the mistake.

Later, it was learned from the media reports that Sri Lanka Cricket Board would lodge a complaint regarding the incident. However, on September 8, the Lankan board tried to clear all the confusion and shared a video on their official Twitter account and wrote,”#SLvInd T20I: Match Referee Andy PYCROFT called it correctly – “Heads India”. In the T20I held at the R Premadasa Stadium, Virat Kohli elected to bowl first and invited Upul Tharanga & Co. to bat first. The Lankans batted magnificently and managed to put a tough total of 170 runs on the board. In return, with Kohli’s ravishing innings of 82 runs and Manish Pandey’s maiden T20I fifty, India registered a 7 wicket victory in the last over of the match.
