Virat Kohli will probably never forget the 2017 tour to Sri Lanka. It has been the best performance by the Indian cricket team in an overseas tour under Kohli’s captaincy. First, they locked the Test series as they hammered the Lankans by 3-0, then captured the ODI series by 5-0 and then took the only T20 home and defeated the local boys by 7 wickets. Plenty of records were created and broken through out the series. Be it MS Dhoni, KL Rahul or the skipper himself, lots of benchmarks have been created throughout the series.
Towards the end of the series, Virat Kohli had another feather in his cap after he became the highest run scorer while chasing in T20Is. He surpassed former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum who had 1006 runs in his account. Kohli played the captain’s knock in the only T20 played on September 6 at the R Premadasa Stadium. While chasing a huge target of 171 runs, Kohli ended up scoring 82 runs off 54 balls and hit the 17th fifty of his career in T20Is. He was also declared as the man of the match.
India completely whitewashed their island neighbours and won 9 international games consecutively on a foreign soil. As soon as India won the T20 game, the people on Twitter erupted in joy and wished Virat Kohli for his phenomenal performance.
