India beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets in the 2nd One Day International, to take a 2-0 lead in the series. But it seems the umpires and match officials have red-flagged the slow over rate Sri Lanka persisted with and hence have banned their captain Uplul Tharanga for the next two ODI’s. This is a big set back for the hosts, who are really being battered in this tour by the visitors. During the second ODI, for a while seemed that the Lankans might get the first taste of victory after Akila Dananjaya reduced India from 108 for 1 to 131 for 7. He picked up six wickets for his team and put them in a position of strength. However, they still lost the match.
Now the news of Upul Tharanga’s ban has proved to be a massive problem for the Sri Lankan team, who will be on a lookout for a new skipper. This already is a team of youngsters. So who will be the captain now? The options that are available are of either the experienced Lasith Malinga or Chamara Kapudegara. They are the most experienced players in a bunch full of youngsters. It has not been officially announced that who will take over the captaincy.
