A day ahead of the 3rd and the final Test against Sri Lanka at Pallekele stadium in Kandy, Team India skipper Virat Kohli cleared the air on his availability for the forthcoming ODI series. In a pre-match press conference, he revealed that he has no issues in playing the upcoming series. He also stated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will select the squad for ODI on August 13.
As reported by PTI, while speaking to the media personnel, he said,”Who said I am not playing? I don’t know where this came from, but I have no problems in playing.”
“We (team management and selectors) are going to sit down on selection soon and we certainly have plans in mind and combinations that we want to speak about. So as captain, I am definitely in the thick of things and knowing what to speak to the committee about,” he added.
Earlier it was speculated that the Indian cricket board might give the captain rest for limited over games to be played against Sri Lanka. However, after heavy workload due to the ongoing Test series, top bowlers of the team like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Shami may instead be given rest. Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad is in Kandy to track the performances while his colleague Devang Gandhi is in South Africa with the A team.
The last Test of the 3-match series will start from August 12 which will be played at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy. The Indian cricket team is already leading the series by 2-0 and will look forward to a series whitewash. Post Test series, Team India is scheduled to play a 5-match ODI series and one T20. The first ODI is scheduled to be played in Dambulla on August 20.
