Mahendra Singh Dhoni starred in the Indian chase to help India take a 3-0 unassailable lead against Sri Lanka. MS Dhoni stitched a partnership of 157 with Rohit Sharma to seal the victory for India. Earlier, in the second ODI as well, India was precariously placed, staring at defeat, when MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar played out of their skins to change the tide and the match in favor of India. Eyebrows were raised about MS Dhoni’s future before the start of the series but Dhoni answered his critics with the bat and how. In the process, MS Dhoni also joined an elite club of the highest number of successful run chases.
But what caught our attention is something more than that. MS Dhoni is a sharp and a street smart wicketkeeper and batsman. Rarely have we seen MS Dhoni miss an easy run out or a stumping. But the inevitable happened on 27th August, when MS Dhoni made a hash of a run-out. The batsman who survived the scare was Dinesh Chandimal.

Sri Lanka was 97 for 2 in the 25th over. Chandimal had played the ball on the leg side. The ball did not go far and he took off for a run. It was a difficult run to take and he was sent back by Thirimanne albeit a bit late. Virat Kohli threw the ball towards the stumps. It looked like Chandimal was bound to be dismissed, but MS Dhoni made a hash of things and missed an easy runout. Chandimal survived, but he could not convert the slice of luck into something big. He was dismissed for 36.

We are sure that this would have upset Dhoni because of the high standards he sets for himself. Though with his current form when it comes to finishing, he should easily be able to glide into the 2019 cricket World Cup squad.
