Indian cricket team led by Virat Kohli had a great start in the year 2017. They thrashed England in the 3-match One Day International series, held between January 15–January 22, by 2-1. Then, they registered a comprehensive victory over the England in the T20 format. Following this, they won the 4-match Test series against the Australians, played between February 23 and March 29, by 2-1.
After defeating the two top sides in international cricket, Virat Kohli & Co also made it to the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy held in England & Wales, which they lost to arch-rivals Pakistan.
The Indian team is currently the Number one team in ICC ODI and Test rankings. In the T20s, the Men in Blue are behind Pakistan, West Indies, England and New Zealand at Number fifth spot.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the national governing body for cricket in the country, divided the players as per their performances in different grades and pay scale.
Let’s take a look at the salaries of contracted Indian cricketers:
Grade A:
Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, R Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja, Murali Vijay.
Grade B:
Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Wriddhiman Saha, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuvraj Singh.
Grade C:
Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Amit Mishra, Manish Pandey, Axar Patel, Karun Nair, Hardik Pandya, Ashish Nehra, Kedar Jadhav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Parthiv Patel, Jayant Yadav, Mandeep Singh, Dhawal Kulkarni, Shardul Thakur, Rishabh Pant
The BCCI, earlier this year, enhanced the annual retainer amounts for all the categories. Grade A players will be paid Rs 2 crores per annum, Grade B will be paid Rs 1 crore per annum and Grade C will be paid Rs 50 lakhs per annum, which is double the amounts paid during the previous years.
Moreover, the BCCI pays Rs 15 lakhs per Test match, Rs 6 lakhs per ODI and Rs 3 lakhs for T20 International matches to the cricketers selected in the respective squad.
