Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) opener KL Rahul has been enjoying a purple patch in this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Along with Chris Gayle, he, yet again, gave an outstanding start to the team against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 21 and scored another half-century. A rain-curtailed game didn’t bother them much and they pulled a magnificent 9-wicket victory. After the match, Rahul bagged his second ‘Player of the Match’ award of this season after which he asked Preity Zinta if she was going to do something special if KXIP lift the trophy this season.
In a post-match chat session with Preity, Rahul recalled Shah Rukh Khan performing the cart-wheel after KKR won the title back in 2012. Mentioning the same, he asked if she would do something like that if KXIP won this year. To this, Preity replied,
“Ok, I’ll do something special. Maybe! You win it for me and I will do something special for you guys.”

The KXIP side looks way different from what they were in the previous seasons. Right from the beginning of this season, Rahul has proven to be the key player in the camp. Later, Gayle turned out to be an added feature in the Punjab batting line-up and now this pair has become the most dangerous in this tournament.
When asked about what made this year special, Rahul said it was the new franchise which was making him strive. He said,
“I’m always special, there is no change. I like opening the batting and it’s a new franchise this year. You guys have shown so much faith in me and I just want to go out there, enjoy the game and try to win s many games as I can for you.”

Rahul also revealed the on-field conversation between him and Chris Gayle during their batting stint. He said,
“I can’t ask Chris Gayle to run as he’s not going to do that. We keep telling each other to hold our shapes and not hit the ball too hard. That’s basically we talk about, nothing much.”
“He [Gayle] said that I deserved the orange cap. I said until it’s within us, it doesn’t matter. Let’s keep it within KXIP and not let it go to anybody else.”
