T20 cricket is considered to be a batsman’s game. Taking singles has been underrated in this form of cricket as fours and huge sixes take centrestage. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions, batsmen make millions for their big hitting skills. However, running hard between the 22 yards, taking singles is crucial even in this form of cricket as dot balls only mount the pressure on the batting side.
We have reached past the half-stage mark in IPL 2018, let’s take a look at the batsmen, who have taken the most number of singles till now:
Player name |
Team |
No. of singles |
Virat Kohli |
Royal Challengers Bangalore |
113 |
Ambati Rayudu |
Chennai Super Kings |
108 |
Kane Williamson |
Sunrisers Hyderabad |
103 |
Sanju Samson |
Rajasthan Royals |
84 |
Ajinkya Rahane |
Rajasthan Royals |
80 |
Kohli is the obvious choice one would make when it comes to running between the wickets. He rotates the strike more frequently than any other batsman in the world. He is also one of the leading run scorers of the tournament.

He is followed by Rayudu. It will be apt to say that Rayudu is in the form of his life this season, scoring runs for CSK up the order and winning matches for them. Williamson has been leading SRH which looks like the strongest side of the tournament so far. Like Kohli, his batting style depends on singles as well.
While Samson’s scorecard shows more fours and sixes this season knocking on the selectors’ doors, he has resorted to singles when boundaries have been hard to come by. His skipper Rahane has looked to stay as long as he can in the middle to get back into the form. He has been criticised for it too, but his approach to the innings includes singles no matter what form of cricket he plays.
Note: The above statistics are till Match 31, before Delhi Daredevils vs Rajasthan Royals clash.
