Rohit Sharma’s 56* unbeaten not only helped Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings and keep their hopes alive of a qualification but also ensured they provided a boost to their net run rate. CSK were the team to beat this season and Mumbai Indians were the team that needed a win to break the slump. But the result turned out to be something that was not on the cards. Mumbai Indians won the toss and keeping CSK’s chasing prowess in mind, they opted to bowl first, which looked like a sensible decision. CSK managed to put a target of 170 for MI to chase. Raina top-scored for CSK with his 75* but one still felt CSK were 15-20 runs short of where they should have been.

CSK proved everyone right when MI chased the target down with 8 wickets to spare. But things were in balance until the 17th-18th over. The 19th over changed the course. Shardul Thakur, it was with the responsibility of bowling the penultimate over. It was 22 to get off 12 balls. Thakur leaked 17 runs in that over, where Rohit Sharma took a liking to him and hit boundaries at will.
