Robin Uthappa, known for giving a blazing start with his bat in T20 cricket, recently turned 32. Despite having an ability to win matches, Uthappa has never been able to cement his place in the Indian side. But he is a regular contender in Indian Premier League (IPL).
He started his IPL career with Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2008 and had a fairly successful opening season. In 14 innings, Uthappa scored 320 runs at a strike rate of 114.69, which is pretty decent in the shorter format of the game.
In 2009, he was moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), where he had a disappointing season. In 2010, he came back strong and managed to score a total of 374 for the RCB.

From 2011 to 2013, Uthappa played for Pune Warriors India (PWI) and maintained a decent form with over 1000 runs under his belt. In 2014, he was bought by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and he has been a part of the franchise since then.

Before the start of 2018 season, Uthappa was the frontrunner to be the captain of the franchise after KKR let off their skipper Gautam Gambhir, who had won two trophies for them. But the command was handed over to Dinesh Karthik.
In his heydays, Uthappa could turn the game around in his team’s favour. He could clear the ball easily and was able to pace the innings according to what the situation required. His dedication and seriousness for the game is the reason why he has never been dropped from any IPL season.
Off-the-field, Uthappa is a funny man. He shares a good rapport with his teammates because of his go-easy nature.

Recently, KKR posted a video on their Twitter handle in which Uthappa can be seen reminding his teammates Piyush Chawla and Kuldeep Yadav that he is still young.
In the video, Piyush and Kuldeep called Uthappa the evergreen batsman. To this, Uthappa, on a lighter note, said: “Evergreen bna diya? Youngster hun mein bhai!”

Meanwhile, KKR are at the top of the points table with three victories in 5 games. They became the table-toppers after beating Rajasthan Royals (RR) at their home on April 18.
KKR will next face Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the Eden Gardens on April 21.
