Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) skipper Ravichandran Ashwin made a bold decision in the previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) when he replaced veteran Yuvraj Singh by Manoj Tiwary. KXIP had a chance of becoming the table toppers replacing Chennai Super Kings (CSK). But after the match they ended up in the third slot of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 points table.
After the loss to SRH owing to a terrible batting collapse, Ashwin was not in the best of moods in the press conference. When asked about an update on Yuvraj Singh, Ashwin snapped at the reporter and said, “What update… What update? I have told clearly that he has been replaced by Manoj Tiwary.”

Yuvraj has not been among runs this season. He has scored just 50 runs from games and was not impressive in the two overs he bowled. He did not bat in two matches because of KXIP openers Chris Gayle and KL Rahul did the job for the team.

However, the decision to pick Tiwary in his place did not go Ashwin’s way either. Tiwary bowled with a Kedar Jadhav-like low arm action and gave 10 runs in the only over he bowled. He disappointed his team with the bat when they needed him the most. When KXIP needed him to string a partnership with skipper Ashwin, he got out after scoring just one run throwing his wicket away after a lose shot.

As a result, KXIP lost a low-scoring encounter to SRH by 13 runs. Yuvraj was picked by KXIP for his base price, Rs 2 crore. Whereas Tiwary was roped in for Rs 1 crore after a bidding war with SRH.
