Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP) opener Chris Gayle has been in phenomenal form this season after Ravichandran Ashwin gave a chance to prove himself in their third match. Gayle has been tormenting bowlers with his six-hitting skills and scoring back-to-back fifty-plus scores. Though, he has not been able to showcase his skill with the ball yet. However, he decided to put on the wicketkeeper gloves after KL Rahul went for a short break.
While Rahul was running from the boundary to the wicketkeeper’s position, Gayle was asking the bowler Barinder Sran to go ahead and have a go. Gayle gave the gloves back to Rahul and shared a laugh with his opening partner. He then went back to the short third-man position to field.

Rahul went out of the ground after Shakib Al Hasan played a short ball from Sran straight into the fielder’s hand. However, there was more drama to follow as Manish Pandey asked the umpire to check whether it was a no-ball or not. As it turned out it was a no-ball, which gave Shakib a second chance. Had it been given out, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) would have lost their fourth wicket in the powerplay overs.

Gayle made a comeback into the team after missing out on the previous match against Delhi Daredevils (DD). He was rested by Ashwin so as to keep him fit for the upcoming matches. Gayle is also in the race for getting the Orange Cap. He has scored 229 runs from three innings already and has a chance to dethrone Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Ambati Rayudu from the top.
