After Rajasthan Royals (RR) posted a modest total of 164 for 5 in the first innings, everyone expected Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to chase it down easily and also come up with a better Net Run Rate (NRR). But the unexpected happened as RCB suffered a batting collapse of epic proportions. In the 9th over, RCB were 75 for 1 and the batting collapse forced them to get bundled out for 134.
RCB skipper Virat Kohli struggled against spin in the tournament once again and lost his wicket for just 4 runs in a must-win clash. The visitors were riding high on AB de Villiers and Parthiv Patel and were storming towards the target but got outfoxed by leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal.
De Villiers scored yet another half-century but it ended up in the losing cause. RCB’s middle order including explosive batsmen Moeen Ali, Mandeep Singh, Colin de Grandhomme and Sarfaraz Khan failed to register scores in double digits.
Here’s how Twitterati reacted to RCB batting lineup implode –

For how many more years are you gonna rob our ticket money and not win a trophy. We pay to watch our team win, not kohli to practice as captain. I’ll stop going for RCB games if kohli doesn’t resign and give it to a young captain.

Its high time #RCB management thinks beyond @imVkohli, 11 Seasons and 0 Titles.

There is no chance RCB can make it into IPL 2018 playoffs now. On the other hand, RR have a slim chance to make it into the playoffs but it depends on the result of other matches. First, they need Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to lose to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Similarly they need Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) to lose as well. Even if KXIP win, RR can qualify if the margin of win is nominal.

This is the second time in a row RCB have failed to qualify for playoffs. Their batting-heavy lineup continued to disappoint in must-win clashes.
