So who will take over the captaincy mantle from Gautam Gambhir, seems to be the big elephant in the room that needs to be addressed?

Speculations on who will lead the side surfaced just after the #IPLAuction2018 was over. It seems the KKR management has come up with a unique way to pick their captain for IPL 11. So, here it is: apparently the captain will be selected in a live session where fans will vote. Honestly, cricket never seemed so democratic ever! Or did it?

The management will offer a chance for their fans to nominate their choices for the captain via fan poll starting February 25 on their website. Star Sports and KKR will the answer the question ‘KKR ka Captain Kaun?’ on March 4.

Speaking exclusively on the Knight Club show on Star Sports, the former KKR and India captain Sourav Ganguly said, “It is important for KKR to entrust their new captain with the kind of faith and stability they showed in Gautam Gambhir.”

He also added that Robin Utthapa is best suited to become the new captain.

It seems the fans are divided over Robin Uthappa and Dinesh Karthik as Chris Lynn seems to be out of the race, thanks to him being prone to injuries. So what works for Karthik is the fact that he has been a successful skipper for Tamil Nadu and has been the captain of Daredevils briefly in 2014. For Utthapa it is the fact that he has been in the KKR mix for a long time and knows the culture in and out. That is what seems to be tilting things in Uthappa’s favour.

Whosoever becomes the captain, the race for the mantle is well-poised.
