Jasprit Bumrah held his nerve in the third ODI and helped India win the series at Kanpur in a nail-biter of a contest. Tom Latham got run out by Jasprit Bumrah and MS Dhoni on the fifth ball of the 48th over and it turned out to be the turning point of the game. Bumrah bowled a fantastic yorker to Colin de Grandhomme and all he could not was to save his stumps. The ball went towards Dhoni who threw it towards Bumrah as Grandhomme and Latham were involved in a huge mix-up. Latham was way down the pitch and had to return as Grandhomme was not ready to take a single. Bumrah hit the stumps and it gave India the wicket they needed in the death overs. But why was Dhoni left in splits when Bumrah hit the stumps?
As a matter of fact, when Dhoni threw the ball towards Bumrah he had enough time to run towards the wickets and dislodge the bails. Latham did not have a chance to make it back to the non-striker’s end. But, Bumrah went with his instinct and took a shot at the stumps and it worked. After the wicket, Dhoni was laughing and signalling to Bumrah that he could have run towards the wickets and dislodged the bails.

Latham’s wicket was crucial for India at that stage as he was looking dangerous batting on 65 runs for 52 balls. The left-handed batsman was in-form and had already hit 7 fours in the innings. He was the key to Kane Williamson & Co.’s victory in the final over given the fact that he won the match for Kiwis in the first ODI at Wankhede as well while chasing.
With Latham gone, the game once again turned in India’s favour as they won the match by 6 runs and won their 7th consecutive ODI bilateral series.
