Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal scored 200 runs in a List A cricket game (One Day domestic cricket match) and thereby, became the first wicketkeeper-batsman in the history of List A cricket to score a double century. He scored 200 runs from 148 balls with the help of 27 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 135.13 in a match between Water & Power Development Authority and Habib Bank Limited in Hyderabad, Pakistan.
The Pakistani batsman was able to do what legendary wicketkeeper-batsmen like Adam Gilchrist, MS Dhoni and Kumar Sangakkara could not achieve whether in domestic or international cricket. With a double hundred, Akmal became the third Pakistani batsman after Mohammad Ali (207) and Khalid Latif (204*) to score a double century. The 35-year-old also became the 23rd batsman to score a double century in List A cricket.
Akmal has been in fine form of late and has been knocking on Pakistan selectors’ doors with his extraordinary performances. Recently, he also scored a century in domestic T20 cricket game and created a record for highest first-wicket partnership.
Akmal’s double century helped his team chase down the target of 315 runs with 11 balls to spare in a 47-over per side match. He got support from Salman Butt who scored 59 runs from 59 balls. Kamran’s double hundred was also the second in the history of List A games after Travis Head scored 202 against Western Australia in 2015.
In ODI cricket, MS Dhoni holds the record for highest score in an innings. He scored an unbeaten 183 against Sri lanka in 2005. His feat is followed by Adam Gilchrist’s scores of 172 and 154.
